WHO AND WHERE

Ramos Mejía is a town situated in the North-West of Buenos Aires. Approximately 1000 Slovenes live in the town and its suburbs.
The majority of Slovenes settled here between the years 1948 and 1949 upon their arrival from the refugee camps in Italy and Austria. The Home is in the center of town and most of its members live within a 3-kilometer radius. It is supported by contributions from approximately 300 members. In 2001 the Home celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Our Mission, Purpose and Activities

Our Mission

The mission is to represent the Slovene community in Ramos Mejia, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Slom¹ek Home was founded through hard work, idealism, and sacrifice of our fathers and grandfathers. Those of us who grew up and developed our Sloveneness in this home, spent our youth in the warm embrace of the Catholic faith, Slovene culture, and national consciousness.

Our Purpose

We are the true testimony of the fulfillment of our founders and their successors’ dreams. In those difficult first years, when funds were being collected for the Home, the founders defined the purpose as follows:

1 – to maintain and cultivate Slovene consciousness in all Slovenes who live within the area

2 – to educate and cultivate members in the Slovene spirit

3 – to deepen and consolidate spiritual values and moral sense in the spirit of the Slovene Christian tradition, and to offer material assistance if needed.

We continue to reconfirm, spread, and realize this purpose.

Our Activities

Our activities in various contact areas are directed by the fulfillment of this purpose. The organizations, which are presented on the website, operate within the assigned areas. The Committee, the Pastor, the School, the Youth, the Young Men and Women, The Association of Women and Mothers, the Cultural Section, the Economy Section and the Social Activities Section organize the activities of our members in search of the realization of the original purpose.
